Today is the first Monday in such a long time that I don't have to do anything for work! I was super excited! I usually have Sunday and Mondays off, but for the past couple of months I have had to do something every monday for work. I decided I would do whatever it was I wanted. My friend Ken came over last night and somehow, i don't remember, hiking came up. So we decided to go hiking this morning.
Waking up to an over-cast(marine layer as Ken says, he's from California) sky I knew it was going to be such a perfect and beautiful day to go hiking.
One of the many views. So pretty!
Trying to get the view in the back, not very successful but you can get the idea
Ken and I
As we were hiking within the first 10min we ran into a little snake. We both saw it at the same time and totally stopped and started jumping and dancing around. It was hilarious. A couple of minutes later a lady that was hiking stopped us and told us that there was a rattlesnake near the rock house towards the top. I kinda freaked and was like WHAT! Always have known that this is the time that the snakes come out but still... never have actually ran into one. So we still continued to hike along and as soon as we got to the road we had to make the decision on whether or not to keep going up towards the rock house. We ended up going on up the mountain and were extra careful. Jumping when lizards ran across the trail and totally scaring myself when I thought I saw a snake but it ended up to be a stick... I blame the hair. :)
The Rock House
On our way back down we ran into this. I just thought that it was so pretty. I love the desert and all the plants. Felt like my mom in a way cause was thinking that this could be an 'object lesson.' The cactus with all the thorns and would hurt so bad had the most beautiful flowers on it. It almost draws you in! (My mom can take anything and relate it to church or life lessons.)
For the rest of my day off I am just getting 'day-off' things done. laundry, post-office, etc... Later going to Trisha's for Amber's Birthday dinner. So it's a pretty laid-back day and I am loving it!
Ha! Sounds like a fun hike full of critters.
